Halo Reach can be an emotional roller coaster. Being able to to handle that roller coaster is your greatest challenge. Everyone will tell you its so much harder to play when you are frustrated. If you watch the top Pro Players you will see, even if something doesn't go their way, they let it go and continue on the game. Control your emotions, so that they don't control the match.

Everyone thinks they are doing everything right. It takes an outsider to be able to pinpoint a flaw and help the person out. Which is why there are coaches in every sport. You might think you are playing the right way, but until you see yourself play you won't know.

Its the same thing when you are watching your own game film. There will be times when you are like "why the hell did i do that?!?" but at the moment you thought it was the right thing to do. Take criticism with a grain of salt and try to get better from it.

With the average age of Halo players decreasing, which means the maturity level does as well; finding players who wont let the ups and downs of the game effect them is extremely difficult. It would be nice to team with people who take criticism well and won't get upset if you want to tell them something about how they play, wouldn't it?

You can, it is possible. Don't only search for players based on skill. Attitude is just as important your skill. As much as you don't think you can hinder your teams ability to win or lose, you do. You might think you are doing everything right in a game, and that your teammates are doing everything wrong. But the fact of the matter is you aren't perfect. Neither are they. But being able to recognize that as a player will make you that much more successful. If you can diagnose a problem yourself, you can fix it yourself.

Your emotions don't only effect you, they effect your whole team. Be able to find players who can agree on the same things you do, and don't have conflicts with. Trust is the base of any relationship, and as corny as it sounds your team is a relationship. You need to trust the other players to be able to focus on your own game.

I hope this helps players realize some things about themselves and help them come down to earth a little more. Be mature, accept criticism, and you will be able to grow a lot more than you have ever thought.

1st.

This thread is a great read, and I truly recommend that this gets stickied. What spinner is talking about is the problem with this community.

It takes a lot to look back and decide that it was your fault your team lost. I support this thread whole heartedly.

I like the part about controlling your own emotions. I've always been a big believer of your attitude affects everything. If you have a good attitude then it will positively affect your team. If you have a bad one, then it will negatively affect them.

Great advice though Spencer...hope everyone follows it.

This thread if full of win! I'm known for being a great team player...and thats all because with whoever i team with I will trust them 100% and listen to there criticism cause it will make you a better player. A lot of players cant take criticism because it is a hard thing to admit you were wrong..But in the end it will help out.

Very well done sir.
These are some of the best tips so far. And it is very true that one's emotions can control the way you play.
Someone cursing and screaming can annoy you and make you lose interest in even playing.
When ever i get those kids like that...they get muted asap. I'd rather hear nobody than to hear that bull crap.

Washup. ;)

From somebody who has a bad out-of-game attitude and a worse in-game one, this thread is 100% accurate.

All advice is worth listening to. You're never going to do everything right, so you just have to learn how to be the person who does the right things at the best times.

If you can't handle criticism you can't handle being labeled a professional. Great tips, and for exposing what it takes to be successful not only in a gaming environment but the real life professional environment as well. Nobody is perfect, and nobody does everything bad, but you have to be willing to give/take criticism fairly in order for the end product to turn out the best.

When I was getting into MLG and competitive gaming I remember watching Str8's teamwork at SD and was amazed. I'm usually putting myself out there for my team but I think I do it too much and try force everything as I have little trust in randoms. Although this isn't in Playlist as I haven't played for a while, but in customs where I know my team aren't the best I could ask for.

But when I do try force plays when I'm not trusting my team my game gets sloppier and I should view my gameplay and see what's up but never get around to it. Will keep in mind though.

Many people out there need to realize this. I also think an issue is your attitude while doing bad. If you're struggling during the game and being negative about it, it is going to hurt your team even worse by the negative factors rather than still being positive and helping out as much as possible.

Agreed completely. Never let the game frustrate you if it's not going your way, everyone gets ****ty luck every now and then, you just gotta respawn and move on, forget about it.

I like to add that criticism is a really touchy thing with most players. After you put so much effort and time into something it is hard to believe someone could possibly know better then yourself, but they do. Chances are they have put equally as much time as you and excel at some part of the game, or why else would you be teaming with them? Take criticism to heart, but do not be offended by it.

That being said, do not criticize a teammate for something stupid or selfish, just because they had a comment about a play you made. Just be sure your critiques are legitimate is all.

Finally, when you are giving criticism, don't be rude about it, saying "Why the **** did you do that you dumbass?!?!" is not helping the cause, instead ask why they did it and then go on to explain what you would have done or how they could fix their fault. Always have reasoning for criticism, it makes taking it a lot more easy and understandable.

Just my two cents. Good Read Spinner.
